Presentation: Welcome to the Department of Art & Art History at UAB! We are dedicated to providing excellent education and training to our students in the fields of art studio and art history. At UAB, our art studio majors develop their visual communication skills by studying a wide range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and more. Our faculty comprises a talented and experienced team of professionals, including Dr. Paulina Banas, Doug Barrett, Douglas Baulos, Jillian Marie Browning, Gary Chapman, Derek Cracco, Dr. Cathleen Cummings, and Dr. Jessica Dallow. Our painting course is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in both knowledge and skills. Through this course, students gain the confidence to explore and pursue their unique artistic objectives. Our dedicated faculty are committed to providing guidance and support. As a student of Art History at UAB, you will have the opportunity to develop visual literacy and critical thinking skills. Our curriculum encompasses the study and analysis of a wide variety of artifacts from various geographic regions and time periods. Under the guidance of our expert faculty, you will engage in thought-provoking discussions and research, deepening your understanding of the rich cultural heritage of art. Led by Chair Rich Gere, the Department of Art and Art History at UAB is committed to fostering a creative and inclusive learning environment. We provide resources and opportunities for students to explore their artistic potential and achieve their academic and career goals. By completing our program, you will be well-prepared to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art and Art History.
